What is infrared heating?
Infrared or radiant energy is the most practical way to add warmth to spaces like patios, terraces, verandas, enclosed areas, or any indoor or outdoor setting where heated air cannot easily be contained and re-circulated.
A heated quartz element emits a safe, clean wave length of light that is only absorbed by solid objects, transferring heat directly to a person, table or floor rather than heating the air.
For this reason, infrared heat can be distributed evenly. Infratech medium wave quartz element heating systems emit a barely discernible, pleasing glow that will not affect the ambience of your gathering - unlike competitive short-wave or halogen electric heaters that produce a very harsh glare or bright-colored light.

Electric vs. Gas
Electric units are more efficient and easier to operate and maintain than gas. They're are over 90% efficient and perfectly safe for use indoors or outdoors.

In comparison to gas heating systems, there are no valves, ignition components, moving parts or burners to maintain or repair.

Furthermore, Infratech electric heaters can be mounted into a standard 8 ft. ceiling using the flush mount frame. When they are surface mounted, they hang less than 9.5 in. from the ceiling.

Quartz elements vs. short wave halogen elements

These units provide comfortable medium wave heat and a soft, almost unnoticeable warm glow. Short wave halogen elements produce intense heat and emit a bright and harsh-colored light.
What about the voltage?
Infratech heaters are versatile and require a variety of different electrical requirements. Depending on the size of the one you choose and whether it's for residential or commercial purposes accounts for how much voltage is required for use.
A 110/120 volt heater is adequate for enclosed areas like garages, indoor work areas or outdoor spaces no larger than a 5 ft radius. These units aren't suitable for large areas.
A 208V unit is mostly used in new homes and businesses. Always remember to determine how much voltage is available to you before ordering and installing a heater. If you use a 240V unit on 208V of power, it will only produce about 60% of the desired infrared warmth.
The main points to remember are:
- Choose models with the correct heat output for the mounting height and the area you are heating
- If the unit chosen is small, more may be required to get the same amount of heat output
- If you choose a dual element for aesthetic purposes, concentrate more heat into a tighter space, more fixtures may be required to provide total coverage of your area
